उत्तर प्रदेश के पूर्वी छोर पर स्थित राजकीय इण्टरमीडिएट कालेज, देवरिया जनपद मुख्यालय पर अपनी स्थापना के गौरवशाली 110 वर्ष की गाथा कह रहा है। उस समय जब पूर्वान्चल के विस्तृत क्षेत्र में शिक्षा का पूर्ण अभाव था, तब तत्कालीन मझौली स्टेट की महारानी की प्रेरणा से तहसील मुख्यालय देवरिया के हृदय स्थल में गोरखपुर के डिस्ट्रिक्ट मजिस्ट्रेट जे0 होप्स सिम्पसन आई. सी. एस. के द्वारा 8 अक्टूबर सन्‌ 1912 को इसकी आधारशिला रखी गयी। स्थापना के समय कालेज का नाम किंग एडवर्ड हायर सेकेण्डरी स्कूल रखा गया । सन्‌ 1912 में पूर्ण रूप से निर्मित विद्यालय का लाल ईटों से निर्मित भवन पुराततरू एबं वास्तुकला की दृष्टि से जनपद की अमूल्य निधि है। सन्‌ 1952 में यह विद्यालय उच्चीकृत कर राजकीय इण्टरमीडिएट कालेज, देवरिया के नाम से जाना जाने लगा। इस स्कूल का दार्शनिक उद्देश्य आत्म सम्मान और मूल्यों के प्रति अपने छात्रों को जागरूक बनाना, आधार एवं सामुदायिक विकास पर समान रूप से ध्यान केन्द्रित करते हुए राजकीय इण्टरमीडिएट कालेज के छात्रों को शहर के बीचों-बीच स्थित स्कूल के विशाल परिसर में पढ़ने और खेलने एवं विभिन्न पाठ्येतर कार्यकलावों में आगे बढ़ने का अवसर प्रदान करता है। ख्याति प्राप्त विद्वान एवं शिक्षा शास्त्री इस विद्यालय में शिक्षक एवं प्रधानाचार्य पद पर विभूषित होते रहे है । अंग्रेजी भाषा शिक्षण की विशेष शैली प्रदान करने वाले मि0 सी.एस. भण्डारी यहाँ शिक्षक पद को सुशोभित कर चुके है । 1920-22 में प्रधानाचार्य रहे श्री राम नरायण मिश्र की प्रेरणा से नागरी-प्रचारिणी सभा देवरिया, जो राष्ट्रभाषा के विकास एवं भारतीय संस्कृति हेतु समर्पित है, की स्थापना की गयी थी । इस स्कूल के पूर्व छात्रों ने शिक्षावि्दों, सामाजिक कार्यकर्ताओं, सिविल सेवकों, वकीलों, वैज्ञानिक, डाक्टरों, मिडिया कर्मियों के रूप में नाम रोशन किया है | वाद- विवाद, विज्ञान प्रदर्शनी, साहित्यिक क्रियाकलापों में भाग लेना इस विद्यालय की गौरवशाली-परम्परा है । प्रति वर्ष साहित्यिक, वैज्ञानिक क्रियाकलापों में जनपद से राष्ट्रीय स्तर की प्रतियोगिताओं में विद्यालय के प्रतिभागी छात्राओं ने विशिष्ट स्थान प्राप्त करने की गौरवशाली परम्परा को अक्षुण्य बनाये रखा है। वर्तमान प्रधानचार्य श्री पी.के. शर्मा इसी विद्यालय के पूर्व छात्र है । शिक्षा उत्कृष्ट मानवीय मूल्यों की स्थापना एवं राष्ट्रीय चरित्र के निर्माण की आधार शिला है इस विश्वास एवं समर्पण के साथ यह विद्यालय अपने परम लक्ष्य के प्रति सतत जागरूक है। सर्वधर्म सदभाव, विश्वबन्धुत्व, वसुवैव कुटुम्बकम की भावना हमारी प्रेरणा की आधार स्तम्भ है । इस विद्यालय के 400 वर्ष की पूर्ति के उपलक्ष्य में डाकविभाग एक विशेष आवरण एवं विशेष विरूपण जारी कर हर्ष का अनुभव कर रहा है ।

Govt. Inter College, Deoria (U.P.) Centenary Year - 1912-2011 Government Inter College Deoria situated on the district headquarter of the eastern part of Uttar Pradesh, speards the glitters of its glorious part of the One hundred Ten years. At that time when the large part of Eastern U.P. was devoid of illiteracy by the vital inspiration of the Maharani of Majhauli State Hon. J. Hopes Simpson (ICS) then District Magistrate of Gorakhpur laid foundation stone of this college on the tehsil headquarter of Deoria on 8th Oct 1912. The name of the college was named as King Edward Higher Secondary School Deoria at the time of foundation. In 1912 the college was constructed with red bricks, invaluable property of district in the view of archeological and architecture. In 1954 the school was upgraded and known as Government Inter College Deoria. The education Philosophy of the school is to enable its students to become aware of the diginity and value of every individuals and the independence of the human race. With a strong academic foundation and an equal emphasis on community development, the students of Government Inter College are given every opportunity to learn and exel in sports and various extracurricular activities in its sprawling complex in the heart of the city. Well known learned persons and educationist had been teachers and principals of this college. Mr. C.S.Bhandari who had is own special style of English language and teaching has contributed his ability as a teacher in this school. In 1920-22 the Principal of the college Sri Ram Narayan Mishra who gave the inspiration in establish the Nagri Prachani Sabha which is devoted for development of national language and the Indian culture. The Aluminis of the institution have brought glory to their Alma Mater by achieving excellence, fame and making significant contribution worldwide as educationists, social workers, civil servants, lawyers, doctors, scientists, media person. It is the glorious tradition of the school to participate in debate science exhibition and litrary activity. Every year the students of this college has participated in district to national level competition and won the special place, thus maintained the glorious tradition of this school. Present Principal Sri P. K. Sharma is the ex-student of this school. Education is the foundation of high values and National character. This college is continuously vigilant and devoted towards their high aim. The basic inspiration of the college is cosmopolitism, Sarva Dharma Sadvhaw, Vasudhav Katumbukum. The department of post is happy to issue a special cover and special cancellation on Government Inter College Deoria on the occasion of centenary year.
